Spicebush Butterfly Drying Expanded Wings. This Spicebush butterfly opened its wings quite wide after they finished expanding exposing the veining and spot patterns. At this stage, its wings are still soft and haven’t completely dried. The butterfly will continue to open and close them until they harden and dry. I love the shape of this Spicebush Butterfly's wing mass from the view photographed. It reminds me of a Japanese kimono robe with its wide sleeves that form a similar shape when the person wearing it outstretches their arms. 200mm f/4
