Detail Two of Interwoven Relationships Between Phlox and Pollinators, 'Phlox in Late Summer'; 2018; 19/1/2 13 1/8 inches; colored pencils, graphite pencils and pastels. This is a detail of the lower right corner from 'Interwoven Relationships Between Phlox and Pollinators' and depicts late summer when nectar and pollen are still plentiful. Squares and rectangles consist of drawn plant parts, spiders, hummingbird moths, Skipper butterflies and a praying mantis. Edges of the drawing paper extend outward past the main composition and are torn as an analogy representing a scene "ripped" from nature suggesting pollinators and plant were abruptly removed from their natural habitat by an unnatural occurrence such as destruction of habitat.
